Self Reflection essay

This self assessment explains the process and learning journey I undergone when taking writing for engineers . Throughout the course I learned many aspects about technical writing. Those include audience, pictures, captions, glossary, and objective. In addition, the three assignments I completed also helped me in technical writing. In the technical description paper, I learned how to cite sources apa style and the process of making a technical description. The process included key parts such as an introduction, description, components, process, purpose, and conclusion. Although, I struggled in finding decent images that would help my readers understand the process. Using keywords to filter allowed me to overcome this obstacle and helped me obtain an accurate image. Furthermore, in my description I’ve meet all the requirements such as providing background information and evidence to support my claim. In my next assignment the analyze of two lab report I was tasked to compare and contrast two lab reports. The process has shown me how to make an effective lab report for readers. First, I selected two professional lab reports from the online school database and compare the 8 elements used. The eight elements of a lab report consists of introduction, abstract, title, material, result, discussion, conclusion, and reference. I was able to see that a good lab report incorporated understandable terms. When comparing the two reports, one had many complex terms that an average reader won’t understand, the other provided more understandable terms. I was able to learn using simple term helps reader understand compared to more complex, making it more persuasive. Readers would lose interest fast, and won’t finish all of the report. The criteria for the report were all meet because I analyze and compared the two lab reports and gave my opinion on the better choice. The final assignment a group proposal for a technical innovation helped me work with other people and a general sense of the process. For the assignment I worked with my group in order to come up with a technical innovation, a self healing concrete mixture. The procedures my group did was finding reliable sources to cite and then creating a technical description of the product. To add on, the assignment was challenging to a certain extent. Coming up with the mixture that would be used involved knowledge from chemistry. However, there were a few difficulties in communicating with my group members. However we were able to communicate to a certain extent. Another challenge was finding the prices for certain materials for the proposal such as price of chemicals and labor. But, I was able to overcome this challenge by researching similar chemicals and yearly job salaries.  Lastly, throughout all the assignments, I learned to paraphrase correctly in order to summarize the article I was referring to. This was useful because it helps me filter the important information from the useless ones. I had to revise my assignments a couple of times before I was able to make a final one. This was because I made certain errors such as not providing enough information. This class has taught me alot and prepared me for the engineering writing field.
