Introduction
The computer mouse was invented by Douglas Engelbart in 1964. Engelbart’s design featured a wooden box with three buttons, and two wheels on its underside (Greenemeier, 2009).
The evolution of the mouse would continue to a ball mouse from Bill English. 8 years after Engelbart’s original mouse, English’s mouse would have a ball inside to monitor movement on the computer screen. The computer mouse would become wireless with the introduction of bluetooth technology. Bluetooth is defined as a short-range wireless interconnection for electronic devices. The technology behind bluetooth was conceived by “Dr. Jaap Haartsen at Ericsson in 1994, and was named after the renowned Viking king Harald Blatand, who snacked on blueberries, and united Denmark and Norway in the 10th century ” (Triggs, 2018). In addition, the bluetooth symbol seen today is a reference to old Danish runes which feature the letters H and B, representing King Harald Blatand. Devices that features bluetooth include mobile phones, speakers, headphones, and computer mouses. Many companies such as Microsoft, Apple, and Logitech would manufacture these wireless mouses. Logitech would release their m185 wireless mouse in the year 2011, and was compatible with most devices. The m185 would include a usb receiver that enabled that removes the necessity of a wire.
